In a perfect world, what and how would you change the educational system in our country?

In this day and age, education has become a topic that is only cared about by a few students and teachers. Most fail to realize that education is and should be viewed as the most important topic in our society. If education reform became our top priority, I believe that many other issues could be solved, including our over filled prisons, which are filled with tons of prisoners who can barely read or write, showing that there must be some connection of prisoners to a poor education. Also, without education, we cannot have jobs that we need in our lives including doctors, lawyers, and engineers, all of which contribute to the health and growth of our society. Furthermore, if we stay with our highly flawed education system then we will slowly grow dumber and dumber, compared to the world. Maybe, if we lived in a perfect world, we could fix our education system thus leading us to having a better America.

If we indeed had a perfect world then there would be various aspects of the education system I would change.First off, in a perfect world I would set up teams of people to go to all schools and separate all of the good teachers from the bad, and after this all of the bad ones would be fired for good.Next, I would hire large amounts of teachers in order to cut the teacher-student ratio to 1:10, allowing for more personal teaching, which would allow for a better learning experience, and for children to have all their educational needs fulfilled. After that, I would allow parents to choose the schools for their children, making it so that schools will fight to be the top school and in the proccess promote overall good schools. Finally, I would allow students to have a say in their education by allowing them to have more of a choice of the classes they take as well as by giving them review surveys on how good their teachers actually were. However, all this is only possible in a perfect world, unless our country rises together to reform this system this really cannot occur.

Using specific evidence to support your arguments, are you for or against Arizona SB 1070?

Although it is true that AZ SB 1070 has the support from the majority of the country, this does not trump the rights to the minority in this law. Many people who are in favor in the law and who believe in its constitutionality believe that Arizona is not violating A.1 S.8 of the Constitution, but instead say that it is " pitching in a hand " in stopping illegal immigration (Navarrette, 2010). However, this argument is highly flawed because if states begin violating the supremacy clause then the laws created are obviously unconstitutional. Furthermore, although the majority of Americans support this law, it violates the rights of others, and as i learned in my government class "majority rules, minority rights" meaning that the majority of the country cannot receive what they want, if it violates the rights of the minority, who are the watchdogs making sure that they are not silenced (Navarrette, 2010). The biggest issue with the law has to be this because, the law will bring up much controversy and you truly only hear the minority calling for this law to be reppealed, as if the minority was the majority. Therefore the best way for these two seperate views to find common ground will be through compromise, which is the best way for all to be happy.

The fact that this law steps all over the rights of the minority is not the only reason why the law is wrong. The most obvious reason for why the law is unconstitutional is the fact that it basically promotes racial profiling. Although it directly states that aprehending officers should not racially profile people when asking them for their papers, the only true way you can ask specific people is if they do not look like white americans, and this is racial profiling (Navarrette, 2010). This is racial profiling because if an american citizen who was either born of lation parents or who became citizens through the lengthy process, could be asked for papers and this could enrage some people. Furthermore, this law hurts itself because not only are businesses boycotting Arizona goods, but some people are even promoting the idea that you should not travel to Arizona (Carcamo, 2010). Therefore, not only is the law hurting Americas minorities, but it also hurts itself because these boycotts will eventually leave the states economy to go worse and worse.

Conversation about Afghanistan War

The person with who i had a conversation with concerning the war was my older brother, and the conversation really surprised me. First off i started by asking my brother if he knew anything about the war and what his position was on it, and he began by saying that he though we were fighting afghanistan because they had ties to al qaeda and that he supported this, but was not to sure because he really had not heard anything about the war for a while now. I started off by telling him that afghanistan was actually our allies and that we and the UN were trying to defend them, and he responded by saying that we should worry about our on problems, and i agreed. The conversation surprised me because i did not know that so many people were so uninformed about this war. Then at this point the conversation turned into a learning experience for my brother.

After explaining to my brother what was really going on in Afghanistan i began to tell him all of the things i learned in class that were bad about the war. I began by telling him that the war was a large factor for why our country is so largely in debt, and this was new to him and he listened more. I then told him how we were basically fighting this war for all of the UN and that while we keep spending money and sending troops they send less and waste less. This all surprised my brother and he took an opposing position on the war quickly and thanked me forr telling him why we were at war. At the end of the conversation i felt good to know about this war so that i could take an educated position and inform others about why i felt that why towards the war. However i was surprised to see how little we all know about the war and all of its effects.

In your opinion, what is the most important economical issue facing the United States right now?

In my opinion the most important economical issue facing the United States right now has to be the high unemployment rate. This is the most important issue for various reasons including the fact that many people are losing their jobs left and right, and although no one in my family has been faced by this issue directly, I know a couple of friends who have had relatives lose their jobs during this recession. Furthermore this problem branches out into various other problems including the high amounts of families losing their homes because without jobs people cannot pay their bills. Moreover, although the economy is slowly recovering, with the unemployment rate this high, the economy is not able to recover quicker than if unemployment was much lower. Also, with unemployment rising, less and less people will be likely to go out and purchase luxuries, which may slow the recovery of the economy even further. These are all a few direct ways in which unemployment is the most important economical issue in that they show what happens if people loose jobs and don't have money but there are also a few indirect ways in which this problem is so huge.

A few other issues that arise with unemployment don't neccesarily have anything to do with the person who is unemployed and this makes the issue larger.First off, if more and more people are unemployed then more and more people try to receive unemployment checks from the government, and this will cause the governments debt to rise which is a different economical issue we face. Another government program that i believe can suffer is social security because the tax taken out of peoples pay checks is what pays for the social security of the retired and with out people working, senior citizens also do not receive money. Furthermore, the government will waste more and more on these checks, causing the national debt to grow larger. These are all large examples of how the rising unemployment rate is the most important issue faced in America. This issue is not only big because it is the largest direct issue facing the people but also because it branches off into several other problems.
